Distributing Donations

CAC receives donations from many sources. Donations often include items that are not needed by CAC but must still be sorted and distributed. The food that is picked up monthly from Midwest Food Bank is shared with the churches that provide storage space to CAC, at least two food pantries, a daycare, a homeless sack lunch program and an elementary school weekend food program.
When receiving donations from individuals or after an estate sale, CAC works to ensure the items donated go to the people who have the most critical needs. Our volunteers sort, organize and frequently clean items so they can be used by CAC as well as other local charities. CAC volunteers deliver carloads and truckloads of items each week to individuals as well as other non-profit organizations like local thrift stores, Teacher’s Treasures, libraries, food pantries, free medical clinics, Random Acts of Flowers, Damar Services, Indy Arts Council, The Villages of Indiana, animal shelters, Hendricks County Senior Services, Perry Senior Citizens Services, a Ukrainian ministry, and others. In addition, some of the items that cannot be used by our clients may be sold on Facebook Marketplace, NextDoor or eBay to raise money for the ministry. The money from these sales is used to keep the large truck running, to maintain the H.I.M. Houses, to pay insurance and utility bills, and to cover other basic expenses. Much like not-for-profit thrift stores, selling some donations keeps usable items out of the landfills and allows people to purchase items they need but could not afford at retail prices. It is this part of the ministry where we frequently see the hand of God providing to those in need. Since our organization is run by all volunteers, 100% of the funds raised from the sale of donations go directly to help the people we serve by providing food, hygiene items, clothing, and shelter.
